"I Don't Want To Walk Without You"
Music by Jule Styne & Lyrics by Frank Loesser
Irving Berlin was a big fan of this number, even calling Loesser to talk over the song, line by line, explaining WHY is was a great song. It was Berlin's favorite tune written by another composer. Contagious at first listen, it is the ultimate "one SINGS their feelings to another" type of number. It enjoyed great chart position and airplay a few times through the years. Two of the best known versions are by Harry James in 1942 and Barry Manilow in 1980. It was also featured in television and film. To name a few, "Sweater Girl" (1942,) "Popeye The Sailor" (1946,) and later in Woody Allen's "Radio Days" (1987) and during an episode of "Fraiser" (1995.) Versions by Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore also enjoyed brisk sales.
